Susan Finsen is a self‐described “mark maker.” The lines and shapes that occur in her current work are reoccurring images and symbols drawn from the world around her; they are simple, yet complex. Marks, layers, colors, media and shapes are used to make the surface interesting, to change the plane and to create curiosity about what’s underneath.
Finsen’s abstract works are the result of an organic and intuitive process. “I enjoy the process of painting, the opportunity to let go and respond to color, shape and texture as the piece evolves— not planning ahead, but creating and inter‐acting with my painting as I work.”
