Evenings with Extraordinary Artists: A Birthday Salute to Walt Whitman

To mark the 192nd birthday of “America’s Poet,” the Arts Club hosts an evening of music from works set to the poetry of Walt Whitman and those he inspired, as well as arias from the poet’s favorite operas.
The performance features soprano Adrienne Danrich and contralto Nicole Mitchell, accompanied by pianist Thomas Bagwell.
The program is co-sponsored by The Walt Whitman Project and the Washington Friends of Walt Whitman.
Ms. Danrich has performed with leading opera companies, including the San Francisco Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera Pacific and Dayton Opera, as well as concert appearances with the San Francisco Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony. Ms. Mitchell has been featured in concert performances with the New York Philharmonic and the Alabama Symphony, in addition to opera productions staged by the Sarasota Opera and New York City Opera. Mr. Bagwell has accompanied Marilyn Horne, Frederica von Stade, Roberta Peters and Denyce Graves and has served as assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera and Washington Opera.
