Arts Club programming draws on the rich resources of
Washington's cultural, diplomatic, and institutional communities. For
example, the club and Borders Books & Music co-sponsor a series
focusing on classical composers and hosted by critics and commentators
from National Public Radio. Other club events have grown from
collaborations with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the
Washington Opera, the National Museum of American Art, the Embassy of
Columbia, and a variety of the city's theatre companies and musical
organizations. Opera artists Dame Joan Sutherland and Denyce
Graves,
authors Suzannah Lessard and Meryle Secrest, and painters Paul Reed
and
Willem de Looper have been featured at Arts Club events in recent seasons.
The club sponsors art classes, photography
workshops, and special cultural programs throughout the year. Historic
preservation activities are also an important part of the club's focus.
